Next year, Jay-Z’s groundbreaking deal with Roc Nation, signed in 2008 and allegedly worth $150 million, is scheduled to come to a close. It was recently reported that Jay-Z has been reaching out to some of the most important figures within the music industry in an effort to negotiate a new deal in which they might take a stake in the recorded music sector of his Roc Nation imprint. The ten-year deal, which is considered a 360 deal, includes a buy-sell option that would allow either side to purchase the other’s stake in Roc Nation. According to an unnamed source, Live Nation intends to continue their touring deal with Jay-Z and Roc Nation, but due to the fact that they are no longer in the business of purchasing stakes in recorded music, have decided to end this facet of their deal. In the original 10 year deal, Live Nation had purchased partial rights to the artists under the Roc Nation imprint, but as the climate of the music industry has changed drastically since the initial deal, they have decided to back out. Recently Jay-Z, along with his longtime associate, Desiree “Dez” Perez, met with Sir Lucien Grainge, the Chief Executive Officer of Universal Music Group, at his offices in Santa Monica for what some speculate as an indicator of an impending deal between the two powerhouses.
Desiree “Dez” Perez is an executive at Roc Nation and a longtime business associate of Jay-Z’s, having helped to guide his career for the last 20 years, and helping to transform him into one the music industry’s most powerful moguls. An integral member of what is referred to as the “Hova Circle of Influence,” she has been characterized as a fearsome negotiator. Recently, Dez Perez helped to put together a major deal between Roc Nation Superstar, Rihanna, and Samsung that has proven to be very lucrative for all parties involved. and Desiree Perez Facebook.com
