When you look at something new, your mind works hard to try to make sense of what it sees. The first thing it does is look for a face — two eyes, a mouth, a nose. It’s a natural instinct that we all have. It’s why we can see faces in clouds. It’s also why images of people are so powerful, and why I love to make them.
Each person has a face that, like their fingerprint, is unique to them. They’re beautiful, mysterious, full of life and endlessly fascinating. They define personality, genetic makeup and cultural identity. This uniqueness drives me to get closer and more intimate with the camera, allowing me to capture in a single frame the true person.
