Investing guru Warren Buffett has taken a gamble and wagered $1 million dollars that he can make a better investment return than a group of hedge fund managers by only investing in a S&P 500 passive index fund. The gamble will be decided this year and is expected to be in Warren Buffett’s favor. Warren Buffett has said that he will give the $1 million to charity.
Warren Buffett has become very supportive in the belief of simple investments that are bought and held for a long time. Buffett also supports the idea of “bottom-up investing” which deals strongly with analyzing companies and building a strong portfolio. Warren Buffett has become the leader in getting Americans to save more as they near retirement and begin to invest and stay investing.
In a letter to shareholders, Warren Buffett shot down the debate over “active versus passive.” He claimed it did not help investors. Buffett has found a way to find strong investors among the thousands of investors that exist. He uses two filters which separate the good from the bad and they are high management ownership and low expenses.
